With winter right around the corner, there’s no better time than the present to update your wardrobe with a new jacket. Doing so will keep you warm and comfortable regardless of what mother nature has to throw your way. But rather than choosing just any coat or jacket, it’s recommended that you choose a denim jacket.
Consider the Color
One of the first things to consider when choosing a denim jacket is the color. Some people assume that denim jackets are only available in blue, but this isn’t necessarily true. Traditionally, denim is made using blue dye. This is why most jeans on the market are blue. With that said, manufacturers can use any color dye to make jeans, jackets or any other denim garment. In addition to light blue, denim jackets are also available in indigo blue, black, white, green and countless other colors. Think about when and how you’ll be wearing the denim jacket and choose the most appropriate color.
Denim or Denim Blends
You should also consider whether the jacket is made of 100% denim or a denim blend. Companies often used two or more materials in the construction of their denim jackets. Instead of featuring just denim, for instance, the jacket may feature denim as well as another fabric. Known as a denim blend, this changes the characteristics of the jacket. Assuming you want an actual genuine denim jacket, stick with 100% denim construction. Only jackets made of pure denim feature the attractive qualities of this material.
Selvedge Denim
When shopping for a new denim jacket, you may discover some that are made of selvedge denim. Technically speaking, selvedge denim is the same as regular denim. The only distinguishable difference is the way in which it is woven. Selvedge denim is woven so that the edge can be used in the garment’s construction.
Zipper or Buttons
Of course, you should also consider whether the denim jacket features a zipper or buttons on the front. This otherwise simple feature can affect both the style and comfort of the jacket. Keep in mind, however, that there’s no single “best” option. Some people prefer denim jackets with a zipper on the front, whereas others prefer buttons. A zipper can potentially be easier to use, though buttons are somewhat more stylish. Regardless, you need to consider the way in which your jacket fastens. Additionally, when buying a denim jacket in person, take a few minutes to button up or zip up the jacket. If it’s difficult, you may want to choose a different style. After all, fastening the front of your jacket is essential if you want to keep warm during the otherwise cold winter months.
